Description

Night feeds shouldn't happen on the edge of the bed

It's 3am. The house is silent, the baby is hungry again, and you're perched on the edge of the mattress with a pillow wedged behind your back and nowhere to rest your head. By the second feed your shoulders ache and your arms are shaking. What you want is simple: one comfy, steady place to sit, ready every time you are.

A corner for the feeds, then for the stories

This rocking nursing chair gives you a separate headrest cushion to lean into, padded arms that take the weight of your elbows, and a gentle rock to fill the long wake-ups. Choose it with the matching footstool and your feet go up instead of dangling. When the night feeds stop, it becomes the bedtime-story chair, then a reading chair in your bedroom. One chair, from the first feed to the last chapter.

Why parents choose it

  • Somewhere to rest your head at 2am: a height-adjustable headrest cushion sits on a 59 cm padded back, so you can set it where your head actually drops, not just the small of your back.
  • Arms that share the holding: wide padded arms give your elbow somewhere to settle while your baby feeds, and the side pocket keeps a muslin, a phone or the remote within reach.
  • Feet up, if you want them: the footstool variant adds a matching padded stool, 48 × 31 cm and 39 cm high, so your knees relax during the long feeds.
  • A seat that doesn't feel thin: a thickened cushion on a seat 45 cm wide and 51 cm deep, with 51 cm between the arms, so you can shift position with a baby on your arm.
  • Warm to sit in, light in the room: soft teddy fabric in a warm beige, on a black metal frame and wooden rockers, sits quietly next to a white or oak cot.

Who it's for

Made for first-time parents setting up the nursery in the third trimester, parents in the thick of night feeds who are tired of making do with the bed or the sofa, and grandparents looking for a gift that gets used every day. Also for anyone who wants a compact rocking armchair that still looks good once the nursery becomes a bedroom.

Perhaps not for you if you want a chair that swivels or reclines (this one rocks only), or if you'd like a wide seat to curl up in: at 57 cm, it's built for a narrow corner first.

The measurements that matter

  • Overall width: 57 cm / 22.4 in. The gap it needs between the cot and the wall.
  • Depth: 55 cm / 21.7 in. Leave extra room behind for the rock, and keep it clear of the wall, the radiator and, later, crawling fingers.
  • Overall height: 91 cm / 35.8 in. Compare it with a chair you find comfy at home.
  • Seat height: 40 cm / 15.7 in. Low enough for most people to keep their feet flat, so standing up with a baby in your arms stays easy.
  • Seat: 45 cm wide (51 cm across the arms) and 51 cm deep. Room to settle, not to slide.
  • Back height: 59 cm / 23.2 in. Measured from the seat; the adjustable headrest sits on top.
  • Footstool: optional variant, 48 × 31 cm, 39 cm high. Feet up during long feeds, knees relaxed.
  • Materials: teddy fabric, thickened cushion, black metal frame on wooden rockers.
  • Movement: rocks gently; the back does not recline.
  • Assembly: simple home assembly.

Measurements as supplied by the manufacturer; allow 2–3 cm.

Order with confidence

Free UK delivery in 4–8 working days, with your delivery window shown before you pay. Pay in 4 interest-free instalments with Klarna or PayPal (18+, UK residents, subject to status), or pay in full. Changed your mind? You have 30 days from delivery to send it back; the return cost is yours. As with any UK purchase, your chair must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described (Consumer Rights Act 2015): a fault within 30 days means a refund, and after that repair or replacement.

Comparing with a second-hand chair or a flat-pack rocker? Check the headrest, the arms and the measurements: we publish all of them. Questions? Email contact@arcandstory.com.

Babies don't always wait for their due date. With 4–8 working days for delivery, ordering now means your corner is ready before the first night feed, not after it. Choose with or without the footstool and add it to your basket.

A chair for feeding and stories while you're awake. Please follow The Lullaby Trust's safer-sleep advice and never fall asleep with your baby in an armchair.

Care & cleaning

Follow the care label on your chair first. For everyday marks, blot gently with a clean, slightly damp cloth rather than rubbing, and test any cleaner on a hidden spot. Keep the chair out of strong direct sunlight and away from radiators. Not sure? Email us and we'll check for your model.

Instead of telling you a chair is comfortable, we show you what decides it: what it's made of, how it's built and every measurement, so you can check it against your own height and your own room.

The Prologue Nursing Rocking Chair

Our brand

The arc, and the story.

Arc & Story is named after the two things a good rocking chair gives you: the gentle arc of the rocker, and the stories that happen in it. The first night feeds, the first picture books, the quiet evenings after.

We only sell rocking chairs, and we try to answer every question about each one before you have to ask.

So comfortable

Absolutely love this chair!

Sophie

Really happy with it

Wasn't sure if I needed a nursing chair at first but honestly it's been so useful. I spend quite a lot of time in it and it's lovely having somewhere comfortable to sit with my little one.

Emily

Lovely chair

Super comfy, looks gorgeous in the nursery and the rocking motion is really gentle. Very pleased with my purchase.

Charlotte

Great for night feeds

I bought this mainly for feeding at night and it's exactly what I was hoping for. The armrests are comfortable and I can sit back properly instead of balancing on the edge of the bed. Really happy overall.

Olivia

Very pleased

Lovely and comfortable chair. Took me a little while to find the most comfortable position but now I use it every day. Would recommend.

Hannah

Beautiful quality

The fabric feels really nice and the chair looks even better in person. Very happy with the quality.

Better than expected

Didn't really know what to expect ordering furniture online but I'm impressed. The cushioning feels substantial and the finish is lovely. Definitely doesn't feel cheap.

Easy enough to put together

Really lovely chair once assembled. Took a bit longer than I expected to get everything set up but nothing too complicated. Looks great in the nursery and feels comfortable.

Perfect for our little nursery

Our nursery isn't particularly big so I was worried about fitting a chair in. Really pleased with how it looks in the space. Comfortable without making the whole room feel crowded.

Before you choose

Your questions, answered honestly.

01How long does delivery take, and what does it cost?
Delivery is free anywhere in the UK and takes 4–8 working days (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays). The expected dates are shown above the Add to basket button.
02Can I return it if it doesn't suit the room?
Yes. You have 30 days from the day it's delivered to change your mind. Return postage is paid by you, and we refund the price of the chair once it's back with us. Full details are in our returns policy.
03Is it difficult to put together?
No. It takes about 30 minutes, and the instructions come in the box.
04How do I know it will fit?
Every measurement is on the dimensions photo in the gallery, in cm and inches. Mark the outline on the floor with masking tape, leave room behind it for the rock, then walk past it. If it still feels easy, it fits.
05How do I look after the fabric?
Follow the care label on your chair first. For everyday marks, blot gently with a clean, slightly damp cloth and test any cleaner on a hidden spot. If you're unsure, email us and we'll check for your model.
06Can I spread the cost?
Yes. You can pay in 3 interest-free instalments with Klarna or PayPal, subject to their approval (18+, UK residents), or pay in full.
07Is it safe to fall asleep in it with my baby?
Please don't. UK safer-sleep advice from The Lullaby Trust is not to fall asleep with your baby on a sofa or in an armchair. If you feel drowsy while feeding, put your baby down in their own cot first.
08How can I contact you?

We'll answer it honestly. Email contact@arcandstory.com.
