Description

The sofa was never meant for 2am

You started on the sofa because it was nearest. Now every night feed means a cushion behind your back, another under your elbow, and your neck bent forward because there's nothing behind your head. The baby is fine. You are the one who can't get comfy. You'd love a chair that does the propping up for you.

From propped up on cushions to properly held

This high wingback rocking chair holds you from the base of your back to your head: a removable headrest, a neck pillow and a lumbar support cushion, with padded arms either side. The rock is gentle and steady for the long wake-ups. Later, it's where stories are read and, one day, where you finally get to read your own book. A chair that stays useful long after the feeds stop.

Why parents choose it

  • A back that reaches your head: the channel-tufted back rises 59 cm above the seat, with a removable headrest and a neck pillow, so you can lean back fully instead of hunching forward.
  • Wings that make a little shelter: the curved sides frame your shoulders, which feels calmer in the dark and gives your arm a place to lean while you hold the baby.
  • Small things within reach: a pocket on the side of the arm holds the muslin, the bottle lid or your phone, so you're not reaching across the room in the dark.
  • Soft, bright and easy on the eye: ivory teddy-style bouclé on a slim black metal frame with light wooden rockers. It lifts a small, dim room rather than filling it.
  • Support low down, too: a lumbar cushion fills the gap at the small of your back, and the arms sit 57 cm from the floor, at a natural height for your elbow during a feed.

Who it's for

Made for parents who want proper support for their neck and shoulders, first-time parents furnishing a light, neutral nursery, and grandparents choosing a gift that will be sat in every night. Also lovely as a bedroom reading chair once the feeds are over.

Perhaps not for you if your corner is under about 65 cm wide, if you need a footstool (this chair has none), or if you want it to recline: it rocks, but the back stays upright.

The measurements that matter

  • Overall width (across the arms): 64 cm / 25.2 in. Measure the gap between the cot and the wall before ordering.
  • Depth: 92 cm / 36.2 in. Allow this much floor from the wall, plus a little for the rock.
  • Overall height: 91 cm / 35.8 in. Tall enough for the back and headrest to reach your head when seated.
  • Seat height: 42 cm / 16.5 in. Feet flat on the floor for most people, so standing up with a baby stays easy.
  • Seat: 43 cm wide and 46 cm deep, with a 59 cm back.
  • Arm height: 57 cm / 22.4 in. From the floor; where your elbow rests while you hold the baby.
  • Cushions: removable headrest, neck pillow and lumbar support.
  • Maximum load: 113 kg (250 lbs), as stated by the manufacturer. The weight the frame is built to carry.
  • Materials: bouclé teddy fabric, thickened metal frame, solid rubberwood rockers, cushioned seat and back.
  • Movement: rocks gently; the back does not recline.
  • Assembly: simple home assembly.

Measurements as supplied by the manufacturer; allow 2–3 cm.

Order with confidence

Free UK delivery in 4–8 working days, with your delivery window shown before you pay. Pay in 4 interest-free instalments with Klarna or PayPal (18+, UK residents, subject to status), or pay in full. Changed your mind? You have 30 days from delivery to send it back; the return cost is yours. As with any UK purchase, your chair must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described (Consumer Rights Act 2015): a fault within 30 days means a refund, and after that repair or replacement.

Comparing with a second-hand armchair? Look at the back height and the seat width: they decide whether your head and shoulders are supported. Questions? Email contact@arcandstory.com.

Babies don't always wait for their due date. With 4–8 working days for delivery, ordering now means your corner is ready before the first night feed, not after it. Add it to your basket and set up your corner.

A chair for feeding and stories while you're awake. Please follow The Lullaby Trust's safer-sleep advice and never fall asleep with your baby in an armchair.

Care & cleaning

Follow the care label on your chair first. For everyday marks, blot gently with a clean, slightly damp cloth rather than rubbing, and test any cleaner on a hidden spot. Keep the chair out of strong direct sunlight and away from radiators. Not sure? Email us and we'll check for your model.

The Margin Nursing Rocking Chair

Our brand

The arc, and the story.

Arc & Story is named after the two things a good rocking chair gives you: the gentle arc of the rocker, and the stories that happen in it. The first night feeds, the first picture books, the quiet evenings after.

We only sell rocking chairs, and we try to answer every question about each one before you have to ask.

So comfortable

Absolutely love this chair!

Sophie

Really happy with it

Wasn't sure if I needed a nursing chair at first but honestly it's been so useful. I spend quite a lot of time in it and it's lovely having somewhere comfortable to sit with my little one.

Emily

Lovely chair

Super comfy, looks gorgeous in the nursery and the rocking motion is really gentle. Very pleased with my purchase.

Charlotte

Great for night feeds

I bought this mainly for feeding at night and it's exactly what I was hoping for. The armrests are comfortable and I can sit back properly instead of balancing on the edge of the bed. Really happy overall.

Olivia

Very pleased

Lovely and comfortable chair. Took me a little while to find the most comfortable position but now I use it every day. Would recommend.

Hannah

Beautiful quality

The fabric feels really nice and the chair looks even better in person. Very happy with the quality.

Better than expected

Didn't really know what to expect ordering furniture online but I'm impressed. The cushioning feels substantial and the finish is lovely. Definitely doesn't feel cheap.

Easy enough to put together

Really lovely chair once assembled. Took a bit longer than I expected to get everything set up but nothing too complicated. Looks great in the nursery and feels comfortable.

Perfect for our little nursery

Our nursery isn't particularly big so I was worried about fitting a chair in. Really pleased with how it looks in the space. Comfortable without making the whole room feel crowded.

Before you choose

Your questions, answered honestly.

01How long does delivery take, and what does it cost?
Delivery is free anywhere in the UK and takes 4–8 working days (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays). The expected dates are shown above the Add to basket button.
02Can I return it if it doesn't suit the room?
Yes. You have 30 days from the day it's delivered to change your mind. Return postage is paid by you, and we refund the price of the chair once it's back with us. Full details are in our returns policy.
03Is it difficult to put together?
No. It takes about 30 minutes, and the instructions come in the box.
04How do I know it will fit?
Every measurement is on the dimensions photo in the gallery, in cm and inches. Mark the outline on the floor with masking tape, leave room behind it for the rock, then walk past it. If it still feels easy, it fits.
05How do I look after the fabric?
Follow the care label on your chair first. For everyday marks, blot gently with a clean, slightly damp cloth and test any cleaner on a hidden spot. If you're unsure, email us and we'll check for your model.
06Can I spread the cost?
Yes. You can pay in 3 interest-free instalments with Klarna or PayPal, subject to their approval (18+, UK residents), or pay in full.
07Is it safe to fall asleep in it with my baby?
Please don't. UK safer-sleep advice from The Lullaby Trust is not to fall asleep with your baby on a sofa or in an armchair. If you feel drowsy while feeding, put your baby down in their own cot first.
08How can I contact you?
