The instructions come in the box. Unpack it near where the chair will live, and keep the packaging until you're sure you're keeping it.

Description

Some evenings you want to sit up. Others you want to lie back

One chair for reading upright, another for stretching out, and a sofa that does neither very well. Most living rooms don't have space for all three. By the end of the day you just want to put your book down, lean back and let the chair take the weight, without moving to another seat.

Sit, recline, rock: one chair, the whole evening

This reclining rocking chair has a multi-position backrest that goes from upright at 90° all the way back to 180°, so you can move from reading to lying flat without getting up. A footrest slides out, the seat cushion comes off to wash, and a gentle rock of about 15° each way does the rest. It's the chair for a quiet hour, a film, or a pause between two chapters.

Why it gets chosen

  • From upright to flat: the backrest adjusts through several positions from 90° to 180°, so reading, resting and stretching out happen in the same chair.
  • Plump, sectioned back: a multi-section backrest with full channels supports your back whether you're upright or reclined.
  • Feet up when you want: a footrest, 32 × 20 cm, extends 38 cm, then tucks away.
  • Two calm colours: beige for a warm, light room, or grey for a cooler, modern one.
  • Easy to live with: the seat cushion is removable and washable, and at 9 kg the chair is light to move; it also folds.

Who it's for

Made for anyone who wants one chair for reading and relaxing, couples who argue over the best spot on the sofa, and new parents who'd like a reclining chair for the evenings. A thoughtful gift for a parent or grandparent who loves to put their feet up.

Perhaps not for you if your space is shallow: fully reclined, the back needs much more room behind than its 81 cm upright depth.

The measurements that matter

  • Overall width: 72 cm / 28.3 in. At the widest point; the base is 53 cm.
  • Depth (upright): 81 cm / 31.9 in. Reclining needs extra space behind, so leave clearance from the wall.
  • Overall height (upright): 84 cm / 33.1 in. Compare with your favourite armchair.
  • Seat height: 45 cm / 17.7 in. A comfortable height to sit down and stand up.
  • Seat width: 52 cm.
  • Backrest: multi-position, 90° to 180°.
  • Footrest: 32 × 20 cm, extends 38 cm.
  • Rock: about 15° forward and back.
  • Weight: 9 kg; foldable.
  • Materials: corduroy-look fabric, metal frame, solid wood rockers; removable, washable seat cushion.
  • Colours: beige or grey, chosen as a variant.
  • Assembly: simple home assembly.

Measurements as supplied by the manufacturer; allow 2–3 cm.

Order with confidence

Free UK delivery in 4–8 working days, with your delivery window shown before you pay. Pay in 4 interest-free instalments with Klarna or PayPal (18+, UK residents, subject to status), or pay in full. Changed your mind? You have 30 days from delivery to send it back; the return cost is yours. As with any UK purchase, your chair must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described (Consumer Rights Act 2015): a fault within 30 days means a refund, and after that repair or replacement.

Comparing with a standard recliner? This one also rocks, and it's far slimmer than a bulky reclining armchair. Questions? Email contact@arcandstory.com.

With free delivery in 4–8 working days, it can be in your living room well before the weekend after next. Choose beige or grey and add it to your basket.

Care & cleaning

Follow the care label on your chair first. For everyday marks, blot gently with a clean, slightly damp cloth rather than rubbing, and test any cleaner on a hidden spot. Keep the chair out of strong direct sunlight and away from radiators. Not sure? Email us and we'll check for your model.

The Interlude Reclining Rocking Chair

Our brand

The arc, and the story.

Arc & Story is named after the two things a good rocking chair gives you: the gentle arc of the rocker, and the stories that happen in it. The first night feeds, the first picture books, the quiet evenings after.

We only sell rocking chairs, and we try to answer every question about each one before you have to ask.

So comfortable

Absolutely love this chair!

Sophie

Really happy with it

Wasn't sure if I needed a nursing chair at first but honestly it's been so useful. I spend quite a lot of time in it and it's lovely having somewhere comfortable to sit with my little one.

Emily

Lovely chair

Super comfy, looks gorgeous in the nursery and the rocking motion is really gentle. Very pleased with my purchase.

Charlotte

Great for night feeds

I bought this mainly for feeding at night and it's exactly what I was hoping for. The armrests are comfortable and I can sit back properly instead of balancing on the edge of the bed. Really happy overall.

Olivia

Very pleased

Lovely and comfortable chair. Took me a little while to find the most comfortable position but now I use it every day. Would recommend.

Hannah

Beautiful quality

The fabric feels really nice and the chair looks even better in person. Very happy with the quality.

Jessica

Better than expected

Didn't really know what to expect ordering furniture online but I'm impressed. The cushioning feels substantial and the finish is lovely. Definitely doesn't feel cheap.

Lucy

Gorgeous chair

Really pleased with the material and overall finish. It's soft, comfortable and looks lovely next to the cot. Exactly the sort of chair I wanted for the nursery.

Rocks really nicely and feels stable when sitting in it. Just what I wanted.

Rebecca

Comfortable and practical

Love the gentle rocking movement. It's easy to get comfortable and I find myself using it even when I'm not feeding the baby. Such a nice addition to the room.

Delivery went smoothly and everything arrived well packaged. Really pleased with the chair.

Emma

Easy enough to put together

Really lovely chair once assembled. Took a bit longer than I expected to get everything set up but nothing too complicated. Looks great in the nursery and feels comfortable.

Katie

Helpful customer service

Had a few questions before ordering and the customer service team were really helpful. Quick replies and clear information. Made the whole process much easier.

Sarah

Great service

I contacted customer support about my delivery and they got back to me quickly with an update. Really appreciated the communication. The chair itself is lovely too.

Megan

Very helpful team

Needed some advice about looking after the fabric and received a really helpful response. Nice to deal with a company that actually takes the time to answer your questions.

Lauren

Perfect for our little nursery

Our nursery isn't particularly big so I was worried about fitting a chair in. Really pleased with how it looks in the space. Comfortable without making the whole room feel crowded.

Before you choose

Your questions, answered honestly.

01How long does delivery take, and what does it cost?
Delivery is free anywhere in the UK and takes 4–8 working days (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays). The expected dates are shown above the Add to basket button.
02Can I return it if it doesn't suit the room?
Yes. You have 30 days from the day it's delivered to change your mind. Return postage is paid by you, and we refund the price of the chair once it's back with us. Full details are in our returns policy.
03Is it difficult to put together?
No. It takes about 30 minutes, and the instructions come in the box.
04How do I know it will fit?
Every measurement is on the dimensions photo in the gallery, in cm and inches. Mark the outline on the floor with masking tape, leave room behind it for the rock, then walk past it. If it still feels easy, it fits.
05How do I look after the fabric?
Follow the care label on your chair first. For everyday marks, blot gently with a clean, slightly damp cloth and test any cleaner on a hidden spot. If you're unsure, email us and we'll check for your model.
06Can I spread the cost?
Yes. You can pay in 3 interest-free instalments with Klarna or PayPal, subject to their approval (18+, UK residents), or pay in full.
07Is it safe to fall asleep in it with my baby?
Please don't. UK safer-sleep advice from The Lullaby Trust is not to fall asleep with your baby on a sofa or in an armchair. If you feel drowsy while feeding, put your baby down in their own cot first.
08How can I contact you?

We'll answer it honestly. Email contact@arcandstory.com.

A chair for feeding and stories, not for sleeping.
